Linda' notes: Sophie is all show bred and her sire's line goes back to the Wellnigh's and Samarkands. She wasn't raced much as it was difficult to keep her weight down to 30 lbs. She would also be over the 20" limit for bitches that we have today. Sophie was the most keen racing dog that we ever raced. What she lacked in speed she made up for in her determination to race.
Always a handful at meetings she just never gave up, even when she trapped her tail in a box door and left 1" of it behind !! She still finished the race and wouldn't come off the lure until she was dragged of it, blood spurting out and covering other dogs and humans alike.
She was eventually mated at the age of 5 to a Striker son, Magic Touch, and produced 3 Open and Championship finalists.
Sophie determined to get back into the race trap....
